Documents- Study programme
The postgraduate university study "Civil Engineering" is organized for the acquisition of doctorates in the scientific fields of Civil Engineering (2.05) and Basic Technical Sciences (2.15) within the scientific field of Technical Sciences.
The main objective of the study is to provide high quality postgraduate education through the proposed teaching and research elements, the available infrastructure, the equipped laboratories and the supervision facilities, and to expand the acquired knowledge by implementing original scientific research. The study program offers the student flexibility in creating study commitments, thus recognizing the diversity of the students' experiences and approaches. The skills acquired include the ability and knowledge to solve specific problems in an interdisciplinary way, to contribute actively to the development of a sustainable society and to pass on the acquired knowledge to future generations. Original scientific research work meets internationally recognized high quality standards and contributes significantly to the development of scientific thinking within one of the faculty's research areas. For this reason, monitoring the quality of postgraduate doctoral studies is of crucial importance and is carried out through various forms of evaluation and self-evaluation by lecturers, students and support services.
Conditions for enrollment in the study
The application for enrollment in the study is based on a public competition announced by Faculty Council. The conditions for enrolment in the study, the documents required for the study application and the method for selecting the candidate for enrolment are specified in the Ordinance on the postgraduate doctoral study in Civil Engineering.
To be eligible for the study application, the candidate must have completed a university course of study in which he/she has obtained 300 ECTS credits, including an undergraduate cycle at one of the Faculties of Civil Engineering, or another university course of study if the proportion of acquired competences in other basic technical sciences is equivalent. this proportion of civil engineering studies, determined on the basis of the Diploma Supplement by the Committee for Doctoral Studies and the committees and faculty committees responsible for postgraduate studies and for the academic evaluation and assessment of the length of study
Candidates who have completed graduate studies in other areas of the scientific field of technical sciences as well as in the scientific field of natural sciences may also apply for the course. In view of the competences acquired, the Committee for Doctoral Studies may impose on these students the obligation to enroll and to take the corresponding number of relevant subjects from the postgraduate studies of civil engineering at the Faculty. The competences acquired are determined from the Diploma Supplement.
If it can be proven that candidates for enrolment have acquired additional knowledge based on published scientific research or by attending and taking exams as part of the postgraduate Master's program, which was started before the higher education reform in 2005, and enroll in the program, they may be exempted from attending courses and taking exams. first and/or second semester The exact number of ECTS credits that the candidate will be recognized as equivalent to the knowledge acquired will be determined individually for each candidate by Faculty Council The study costs will be reduced in proportion to the reduction in ECTS credits of the recognized courses.
Completion of studies and acquired competencies:
The study ends with successfully passed exams, satisfied with all other obligations of the study and the successful preparation and public defense of the doctoral thesis before the Commission for the Defense of the Doctoral Thesis. At least 180 ECTS credits are earned upon completion of the study.
Upon completion of the study, the student becomes a doctor of technical sciences and acquires the following competencies:
- performing research using scientific methodology
- conducting research in the spirit of generally accepted research ethics
- independent advanced scientific research and professional work in the field of modeling, computation, analysis and design of systems in specific branches of science
- the ability and knowledge to solve specific problems in an interdisciplinary way, especially in connection with the interrelation between construction projects, systems and their environment
- carrying out the critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex concepts
- application of the results in a context other than that in which they were obtained
- development of new methodological procedures
- critical evaluation of their own research work and the research work of others
- the ability to present your own work
- knowledge transfer in a pedagogical way
- conduct a discussion with logical argumentation of positive scientific facts (in terms of information, ideas, challenges, possible solutions)
- implementation of research activities
- further independent development and improvement in the field of research, planning, design, execution and management of the most complex construction projects and related systems
- promoting technological progress in a knowledge-based society
- acting independently within the academic community
